On Boxing Day I was talking to my cousin about my anxiety and she recommended Bach Rescue Remedy. She herself had been recommended it by a friend and had felt like it had helped her. I decided I had nothing to lose (other than money…) and headed out the next day to pick up a bottle. You can find it here on Amazon* and it’s currently on sale for £6.00 down from £9.20. I have been using it for almost a month now and wanted to share my experience with you.
Before we begin I wanted to first state that the remedy is vegan and gluten-free – win win! The ingredients are: Grape Alcohol (approx. 27% v/v), Flower Extracts of: Rock Rose, Impatiens, Clematis, Star of Bethlehem and Cherry Plum.
As you drop the four droplets onto your tongue the first sensation is the burning of the alcohol. For me it’s like having a shot of whiskey or brandy. It’s not unpleasant but I tend to follow it with a mint! I sometimes wonder whether the shock of the taste distracts your brain from the anxiousness – however I suspect there may be more science behind it!
I use the remedy whenever I am going into a situation that I know will cause ma anxiety – such as food shopping or a car journey. I find that it doesn’t immediately take away the anxiety but I like that. It helps me cope with my anxiety and I find that I calm down a lot quicker and am then able to successfully complete the event that made me anxious. For me, the anxiety that it allows me to feel at the beginning is good because I feel like I am tackling the anxiety and feel proud of myself for persevering and getting myself through the event and anxiety. This then sets me up in a slightly more positive position to tackle that event again in the future, because of my previous positive experience.
Is it a placebo affect?
I’ll be honest, it is possible that this Rescue Remedy is having a placebo affect on me. I don’t care though because whether it’s the ingredients or a placebo affect it’s helping me to tackle my anxiety. I am going to be careful not to become too reliant on it but for the initial stages of tackling my anxiety I believe that a little help can go a long way!
In conclusion, I would recommend this Rescue Remedy if you are suffering from anxiety and would like a little helping hand.
