If you read my blog posts last week then you will know that I struggled a lot with my anxiety last week. On the Friday I had no plans and so I decided to take the day off and treat myself to some self-care. I also thought why not blog it? So here is a self-care/pamper/day in the life/ what I eat in a day post!
I began the day with a cup of tea and a chocolate coated rice cake. I woke up feeling anxious and nauseous so having something to nibble was the best breakfast option for me. I was home alone today – which rarely happens and so I revealed in the peace and sat and drank my tea whilst catching up on people’s blog posts.
I felt physically exhausted from being so tense and anxious all week but I knew if I got on with a few little tasks then it would disappear. I’d let my bedroom get a little bit too cluttered this week and so I decided to begin by tidying and cleaning. Unfortunately my beautiful chair often becomes a dumping ground for clothes – including a pair of my partner’s work trousers that are waiting to be altered.
Once everything was tidy I grabbed our mini hoover and gave the floor a quick clean. I LOVE my white wood flooring but I hate how it shows up every speck of dust. I feel like I spend my life either hoovering the floor or thinking about how I need to hoover the floor.
Once my room was all clean and tidy I decided it was my turn. I thought I’d spend a little time with my face this morning. I began by using my Neutrogena face scrub – I only use this once or twice a week as I suffer from dry skin and eczema. I then used my facial cleansing brush to ensure my face was extra clean! (Fun fact – I’ve had this facial cleansing brush for over a year now and it was a bargain that my partner’s step mum picked up in Aldi!)
Once my face was clean I applied this pink clay mask to my T-zone. This sample came in my ASOS beauty advent calendar and so I have been trying it out to see whether it’s worth purchasing a full sized one. Whilst the mask was on for 15 minutes I had a cup of tea and caught up on some YouTube videos.
I decided to go all out today and set up my face steamer. I’ve had a face steamer for about 15 years and asked for a replacement this Christmas. I find it really helps my pores. I also suffer from severe chesty coughs when I get ill and so the steamer attachment comes in handy! I spent 10 minutes breathing in steam. I found it very difficult to last the whole 10 minutes as I wanted to get up and do something.

After my steam I washed my face and applied my Hyaluronic Acid by The Ordinary. With my face feeling all clean, soft and glowy I decided it was time for some lunch.
My partner was being taken out for a curry by his work today and so I was hugely jealous because he was having a yummy lunch. I decided that there was nothing stopping me cooking up something equally as yummy. I settled for some fried rice and grabbed some left over bits in the fridge. Here’s how to make it if you’re interested:
Put the rice on to boil.
Chop and wash some onion and a stick of celery. Fry the onion and celery in the oil until the onion begins to brown and the celery is soft. Add 1 teaspoon of sugar to caramelize and take off the heat until the rice is cooked.
Add the rice to the frying pan. Add a few splashed of soy sauce (to taste) and some salt and pepper. Fry for 5-10 minutes.
Finally, stir in 1 teaspoon of butter and serve.
I try to have a Berocca everyday but inevitably I end up forgetting. Since I was feeling so exhausted today I made sure I didn’t forget and had a glass with my lunch. I also find this is a handy way of making sure I get an extra glass of water everyday.
After lunch I decided to pop out for a walk and so I rung my mum whilst I walked around the block. My anxiety affects me in the sense that I constantly have to be doing something and so if I go for a walk on my own I try to call somebody. It’s a habit that eventually I would like to break but for now at least it somewhat gets me out of the house on my own. I try to regularly go for a walk around lunchtime just so that I get out of the house for a while. I tend to do a mile on this particular route and so it also gets my steps up for the days when I’m sat at my desk working.
I’ve been trying to cut down on the amount I wash my hair but there was no avoiding it today. I decided to make a treat of it and have a bath. I lit a candle, grabbed my book and poured in some Almond Milk & Honey shower gel from The Body Shop.
After soaking until my fingers and toes began to shrivel up I jumped out and decided to fake tan. I always find I feel happier in myself when I have a tan – although I rarely fake tan as I’m too lazy! I’m also now a little bit streaky but it’s winter and I’m mostly covering up so nobody will ever know! I like to put a little bit on my face (on top of my moisturizer) to stop myself from looking so pale!
I sat down with a cup of tea and some gluten free Jaffa cakes to finish my book this afternoon. These are the first gluten free Jaffa cakes I’ve tried and they weren’t too bad – providing you enjoy the taste of stale sandy biscuits! Once I finished my book I scrolled through some blog posts. It was the perfect relaxing afternoon.
Once I knew my partner was on his way home from work I put together some dinner. Normally I would make the tomato sauce from scratch (Click here to see my usual recipe) but tonight I felt too tired and so used a jar. We’re all allowed a cheat day, right? I did add some oregano, mozzarella and some olives to my half! I think we might be extra naughty and have some mozzarella sticks with it…
We had a quiet evening watching Tv. It was the perfect day of relaxation but unfortunately didn’t do much for my mood. I spent most of the weekend feeling quite down but actually didn’t suffer too badly with my anxiety.
