Weekly update (26th August – 30th August) Bank Holidays and Upcycling

It’s been a really fun week this week.

I also saw a mental health nurse and so I feel like my recovery is really on track at this point in time. It’s been a really positive week and I’m going to try and hold onto this feeling even if next week is a little bit rubbish.

Monday 26th August –

(This picture is from Sunday as I forgot to get a picture today!)

It’s been a bank holiday weekend here in England and I think it’s probably been one of the best that I’ve had in a very long time. I managed to get out and about a lot, with minimal anxiety!

Today my boyfriend and I popped out to a local town just to have a wander round and get out of the house. It’s boiling hot here so going out for a walk is out of the question – thankfully most shops have air con. I was incredibly proud of myself as for the first time in about 6 months I didn’t have a panic on the journey. This is a huge deal for me as lately I can’t even go 5 minutes in the car without panicking. We had a little wander around and grabbed a coffee. I began to feel my anxiety creeping in but I tried to push it away for as long as possible. I think I’m finding it a little easier to distract myself when it’s only a small amount of anxiousness.

We treated ourselves to a book each and decided to spend the afternoon in the garden reading. It was the perfect end to a lovely bank holiday weekend.

Tuesday 27th August –

Today was tough. I finally had my appointment with the mental health nurse. I was incredibly anxious about it all morning. The time for my appointment rolled around and my nan came with me to sit in the waiting room with me. I find the waiting the worst part of appointments. Thankfully as I was in the queue to check-in the nurse came out to meet me. The appointment went really well, I’m going to write a separate blog post on it so that I can go into detail.

The afternoon was rather quiet, I was feeling exhausted after having panicked so much that morning. We’re also experiencing a heat wave at the moment and it’s been so hot. My little cousins were round and so I had a little chat with them and sneaked a quick half an hour read of my book whilst they went out for a walk.

Wednesday 28th August –

I’m trying some new medication for my IBS, I started it on Sunday and today was my next dose. Lets just say my stomach has been a little unsettled this morning. My cousins are round and so I’ve shut myself away upstairs in my room to write a couple of blog posts. I’m keeping it quiet this morning to allow my stomach to settle and get use to this medication.

I spent the afternoon at my parents sanding down a table that I got at the weekend. I think the previous owners must have coated the pine with a thousand coats of varnish and so it’s taking a lot of work to sand it back down. I spent a solid three hours in the afternoon sanding with my mum and brother – it was surprisingly fun!

Thursday 29th August –

Today was another day of sanding. I put on the only pair of shorts I own in the hope that I might tan at the same time. My plan worked and I now have an interesting tan line from the back of my top. I spent another few hours sanding the table again – the legs are quite intricate and so took some time. We have finally reached a point where we think it’s ready to paint.

All of us were too exhausted to begin the painting process today and so instead I headed off for a shower.

My cousins were round and so I spent a couple of hours playing and reading with them before they headed home and I started dinner. My back is really painful after spending many hours crouched down sanding but I know it’ll be worth it in the end.

Friday 30th August –

I had a really quiet morning today, I just caught up on a few bits at home that I had fallen behind on. After lunch my mum picked me up and we went to a second hand furniture shop. My mum picked up a really pretty chair and we headed home to sand it down.

Whilst she sanded, I painted the undercoat on the table that I have been working on. I’m still really enjoying this and looking forward to painting it at the weekend to see the finished result. I’m hoping to pick up some chairs at some point to go with it.

Would you be interested on a post showing you and going into more detail about my up cycling project?

  1. Nice weekly update, it’s good to hear this past week held up for you throughout most of it, there’s always going to be one day out of the rest where you feel a little more anxious than others, but i’d say you did well last week handing your anxiety so well done on that!! ^_^

I’ve never really tried upcycling before, but it sure does sound like a lot of fun getting to reuse old furniture and turning it into something different!! I would love to see and read about how your upcycling projects turned out once you’ve finished them, I think that’d make for a very interesting post!!

I hope you’re well and having a good day and I hope everything continues to go well with you working through your Anxiety ❤
